Week of January 16, 2011

Exciting events in our classroom:
  • Our Liturgy went really well last week.  I'm very proud of the students for taking all their "parts" seriously, including going through a pretend baptism.
  • Catholic School's Week is coming up at the end of this month.  The theme for our silent auction basket is "Summer Fun."  I am asking that each student bring one small summer fun item or $2-$5 in to contribute to our basket.  I need the item or money by Tuesday, January 24.
  • We are beginning to run low on snacks again, so please start sending in a snack to share for 3rd quarter with your child.
  • Your child should be reading their "approved" book for 20 minutes each night.  I've been working with them to pick out a book that matches their skill level and interest.  Some students are reading different books at school and at home and others are bringing their book back and forth to read each day.  Please help remind them each night to read their approved book.  This is a great way to work on their reading comprehension!
  • It's hard to believe but 2nd quarter will be ending on January 19th.  Please keep an eye on your student's assignments and encourage them to do any missing ones.
Focus areas for the week:
Religion – Image of God
Language Arts - Daily 5/CAFE - finish one "good fit" book
Math – Multiplication/Division and Algebra (Please help your child practice their facts!)
Social Studies - Native American unit
Science - Scientific method

Dates to Remember:

Fri., Jan. 20 - No school  (Teacher inservice)
Jan. 30 - Feb. 3 - Catholic School's Week

Thanks to Corbin for the pencils!

We are working on Native American tribe projects.  The students are working with a partner to learn more about a Native American Tribe of Wisconsin.  I'm hoping to do either a field trip or have some guest speakers come in along with this unit.  If you have any knowledge about Native American culture, art, language, etc., please let me know.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Worrall J
