Week of November 7, 2011

Exciting events in our classroom: Our Veteran's Program is coming up this Friday at 2:00.  The students have been working hard to prepare it with Ms. Betzold's direction.  Please come and see it if you can! Donations need to be sent by Thursday morning!  Please continue to send any non-perishable foods or toiletry items to donate to our Stuff the Truck collection.  All donations will be going to help those in need through The BRICK.  Mr. Bell has also given us further encouragement by offering a pizza party to the class with the heaviest weight of donated items! We are busy working on preparations for our school Thanksgiving luncheon on November 17.  We are helping the Kindergarten make table runners, and we are also in charge of the place cards.  It is always nice to sit down with the whole school for a Thanksgiving celebration! 2nd Quarter has now begun!  Please send a snack with your child to share with the class for this quarter.  I ask that everyone brings one snack per quarter.  The students and I really appreciate this!

Focus areas for the week: Religion – Finish 10 Commandments Language Arts - Guided Reading groups, writing workshop Math – Algebra! Social Studies - Natural Resources of WI Art -  Table runners and place cards for Thanksgiving dinner Science – Red Ribbon activities Music - The students are preparing for the Veteran's Day Program on November 11th.  They will be performing the program with the 3rd grade.  Last years program was extremely enjoyable and this year's looks like it will be great too!  Some of the the students have lines they have to memorize.  Please ask your student if they do and help them with their memorization.  It is okay if the lines are not word for word, but they need to get the main idea across.  Some students are nervous about this so they need our support!  Thank you!

Nov. 9 - Picture Retakes and Family movie night at the Great Lake's Visitor Center - "A Dog Named Christmas" - Doors open at 5:45, admission is free! Thurs. Nov. 11 - Final Stuff the Truck Day Fri. Nov. 11 - Veteran's Day Program (3rd and 4th graders are leading this!) Mon. Nov. 14 - Early Release Day at 12:00 Thurs. Nov. 17 - Thanksgiving luncheon (during regular lunchtime) and Parent/Teacher Conferences (in evening)
