Welcome!
Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to fourth grade!  I’m excited about starting a new school year, and I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your child.  There is some information I wanted to let you know about right away.
Weekly Blog/Newsletter
Every Monday I will be updating my blog with the week’s newsletter.  This will contain any information you may need to know about the week or upcoming events.  It will also include some information about what’s going on in our classroom.  You can access my blog through the school’s website www.ourladycs.org  If you do not have access to a computer please let me know, and I will print out a newsletter for you.
Snack
Everyday we will have a milk/snack break around 9:45.  I would like each child to bring 1 snack to share with the class each quarter.  It can be a snack that can be shared with the class multiple times such as crackers or fruit snacks.  It can also be a fresh snack that we have right away such as carrot sticks or fruit.  Please send a snack to share with your child as soon as you can for 1st quarter.  Students can also bring their own snacks during this time if they get especially hungry or only like certain things.  Students may bring a special treat to share on their birthday (or half birthday for summer birthdays) if they choose.
Planner
Each student in our school is required to buy a planner for $4.  We will be using the planner in our classroom every day.  I require students to fill out the planner each afternoon with what we did throughout the day.  They will then use a marker to circle anything that needs to be done as homework.  This is to make it easier for you to see what they have for homework but you can also see what else they have been doing.  I also require students to get their planners signed by you or another adult or older brother or sister each night.  This is to ensure that you are seeing what homework they might have and also to work on teaching responsibility.  I appreciate your help with this!  The planners are also a good place to write me notes, and there are times I may write you a note in it.
Homework Folder
In addition to their planner, students will also be bringing home a homework folder each night that I provide.  This is where you will find any notes from the school, forms to fill out, or homework your student may have.  I will be sending home all graded work on Mondays in this folder.
Field Trip
We have our first field trip coming up next Thursday, September 8th.  We will be going to the Big Top Chautauqua.  There is another note coming home today that tells more about this.  I will be in need of parent drivers for this trip.  Please check your schedules and let me know as soon as possible if you are able to drive.
School Dinner/Open House
We have a school dinner coming up which is also on Thursday, September 8th.  It will be at 5:30 in the Social Hall.  This is a time to come in meet other families, staff, and enjoy a wonderful dinner!  Following the dinner there will be open houses at 6:00 in all the classrooms.  The open house is a time for you to see what your child will be learning this year, ask me questions, and/or help me find out more information about you and your child.  I look forward to seeing you there!
Homework
Each night I ask that your child reads a minimum of 20 minutes.  Some nights I will assign the reading and other nights it will be a free choice.  Reading is a very important skill and affects every subject, so it is important that this is something they are constantly working on.  Your child may have other homework some nights if they do not finish their work during their work time at school.  I try to provide as much work time as I can, so that I can work with the students if they have questions.
Please contact me if you have any questions, concerns, etc.  I want to work with you to give your child the best education possible.  Thank you for entrusting your child, God’s precious gift, to me.  I will do my best!
                                           Sincerely,
                                           Mrs. Sarah Worrall
