Week of December 19, 2011

Exciting events in our classroom:
  • I sent home a note last Friday about our change in the date for our Christmas Party.  It is now in the afternoon of Thursday, December 22.  Girls should bring a "girl" present and boys should bring a "boy" present to exchange.  If you would like to send a Christmas treat or beverage to share with the class, those are welcome too!
  • The Christmas store is Tuesday, December 20.  Everything at the store is 50 cents.  Students can purchase items for anyone on their list as long as they have the money for it.  This is also a good place for your child to buy their class Christmas present.
  • The Baby Jesus Party turned out very nice.  We appreciate everything that was brought in.

Week of December 12, 2011

Exciting events in our classroom:
  • The Christmas Program turned out wonderful on Friday night.  Thanks to Ms. Betzold for her hard work and all my students that put their best efforts in to make it so nice! 
  • We had a fun pizza party on Friday. With the guidance of Ms. Montano,  we were able to make homemade pizzas that were very yummy.  We enjoyed working with our Kindergarten buddies too!  Thank you Ms. Montano, Mr. Maynes, and Ms. Zifko for all your help!
  • The Baby Jesus Birthday Party is coming up this Thursday afternoon.  At this party we will be celebrating the upcoming birth of Jesus by collecting baby items for The BRICK, making cards for people at the nursing home, and enjoy a birthday cake in honor of Jesus.  So far I haven't received any donations of baby items.  If you are able to send in anything for those in need, please do so.  Some of the items they are in need of are baby food, diapers, wipes, and baby shampoo.
  • I plan to do our Safe and Sacred lesson on Tuesday of this week.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Week of December 6, 2011

Exciting events in our classroom:
  • We had a great field trip today to WITC.  The students got to do 12 hands on labs about the human body.  They even got to hold a sheep's heart, eye, kidney, and brain!
  • Our Christmas Program is coming up on December 9th at 6:30.  The students are busy preparing for that with Ms. Betzold.
  • The students worked together to purchase the "class pizza party" from our Rock Star Class Store.  I was impressed with their efforts!  Mrs. Montano will be coming in on Friday to help us make homemade pizzas for the party.  They also purchased a class movie, so we will be watching Mr. Popper's Penguins.  We are excited because we read that book earlier this year!
  • We will be finishing up our Guided Reading books soon and then will be starting an independent reading unit.  I will be focusing on individualized strategies for reading.  Students will have a book at their level to read at school and at home.  Please support them in their reading!

Week of November 28, 2011

Exciting events in our classroom:
  • We have a fun field trip coming up next Monday for a Science Day at WITC.  Last year it was a wonderful experience that helped us have hands on experience with exploring science.
  • Our Christmas Program is coming up on December 9th at 6:00.  The students are busy preparing for that with Ms. Betzold.
  • Tomorrow is Stuff the Gym night at our basketball game.  Games are at 6 and 7.  Please come if you can with your red and white Bruin's colors on!
  • We will be finishing up our Guided Reading books soon and then will be starting an independent reading unit.  I will be focusin on individualized strategies for reading.  Students will have a book at their level to read at school and at home.  Please support them in their reading!

Week of November 21, 2011

Exciting events in our classroom:
  • We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday.  Thanks to all the classes that helped make it a nice time!
  • We had our pizza party last Friday for winning the Stuff the Truck contest.  Thank you to all the students that brought items in to help us win.  Thank you also to Mr. Bell for providing the pizza.  We enjoyed it!
  • Thank you Mrs. Zifko for surprising me with a wonderful birthday cake on Friday.  We also enjoyed that!
  • I had a great turn out for Parent/Teacher Conferences last Thursday.  It was nice to talk to almost all of you.  It is so nice to work with such supportive parents!

Week of November 14, 2011

Exciting events in our classroom:
  • The Veteran's Program went great!  It was so fun to see all the costumes and the results of everyone's hard work.  Thanks to the parents for helping your child learn their lines and a big thanks to Ms. Betzold for her hard work!
  • Thank you so much for all your donations for Stuff the Truck!  With a total weight of 232 lbs the 4th grade won the contest!  As a school, we were able to donate over 800 lbs of food and other items total to the BRICK.  What a great service project!
  • We are still busy working on preparations for our school Thanksgiving luncheon on November 17.  We are helping the Kindergarten make table runners, and we are also in charge of the place cards.  It is always nice to sit down with the whole school for a Thanksgiving celebration!
  • 2nd Quarter has now begun!  Please send a snack with your child to share with the class for this quarter.   Thanks to those of you that have already sent one!
  • Parent/Teacher conferences are coming up this Thursday night.  Please contact me or Ms. Sara if you need to reschedule.  I will be giving you your child's report card at that time and discussing how their year is going so far.  I'm looking forward to talking with all of you!

Week of November 7, 2011

Exciting events in our classroom:
  • Our Veteran's Program is coming up this Friday at 2:00.  The students have been working hard to prepare it with Ms. Betzold's direction.  Please come and see it if you can!
  • Donations need to be sent by Thursday morning!  Please continue to send any non-perishable foods or toiletry items to donate to our Stuff the Truck collection.  All donations will be going to help those in need through The BRICK.  Mr. Bell has also given us further encouragement by offering a pizza party to the class with the heaviest weight of donated items!
  • We are busy working on preparations for our school Thanksgiving luncheon on November 17.  We are helping the Kindergarten make table runners, and we are also in charge of the place cards.  It is always nice to sit down with the whole school for a Thanksgiving celebration!

Week of October 31, 2011

Exciting events in our classroom:
  • We are finished with our ITBS testing!
  • Our Halloween party was fun.  It was fun seeing all the different costumes.
  • Please continue to send any non-perishable foods or toiletry items to donate to our Stuff the Truck collection.  All donations will be going to help those in need through The BRICK.  Mr. Bell has also given us further encouragement by offering a pizza party to the class with the heaviest weight of donated items!
  • The end of 1st quarter is Friday.  I can't believe how fast it's gone.  Please remind your child that any missing work needs to be turned in by Friday to be a part of their grades.

Week of October 24th

Exciting events in our classroom:
  • Our ITBS testing has been going well so far.  We are nearing the end.  We will be finished by Tuesday of this week!
  • Our Liturgy and Grandparent's Day celebration went well last week.  It was so nice to see so many special visitors there.  The students did such a good job with their readings and jobs.  I was very proud of them! I will try to put up some pictures as soon as I can.
  • Please continue to send any non-perishable foods or toiletry items to donate to our Stuff the Truck collection.  All donations will be going to help those in need through The BRICK.  Mr. Bell has also given us further encouragement by offering a pizza party to the class with the heaviest weight of donated items!
  • Our Halloween Party is coming up on the morning of October 31st.  Students should wait to put their costumes on until they get to school.  You are welcome to send a treat for your child to share with the class on that day.  It is an early release day so all students will change out of costumes and leave at 12:00.

Week of October 17th

Exciting events in our classroom:
  • Today begins our ITBS standardized testing.  Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast this week.  We want them to do their very best!  If anyone is able to send a healthy snack for any days this week (such as fruits or vegetables, etc.), that is another way we can help keep the student's brains happy! 
  • On Wednesday we will be celebrating Grandparent's Day.  It begins with a special breakfast together when the students arrive at school.  Then we have mass at 9, which we get to lead.  This is followed by time for the students to bring their grandparents (or grandfriends, special aunts or uncles, etc.) to the classroom where we will participate in an activity together, and they can give them a tour. 
  • Our annual Stuff the Truck collection has begun.  Please send any non-perishable foods or toiletry items to donate.  All donations will be going to help those in need through The BRICK.
Focus areas for the week:
Religion – We are the leaders for this week's Liturgy, so we are busy preparing for that.  It is also Grandparent's Day.  We are excited to prepare such a special mass!
Language Arts - We will watch the movie of Mr. Popper's Penguins on Friday and compare it to the book.
Math – ITBS testing

Art/Science ITBS Testing

Week of October 10th

Exciting events in our classroom:
  • Our first class store went great last week.  The students were excited to get to shop with their well earned Starbucks.  It was fun to hear their strategies for saving up for some of the items that they couldn't yet afford.  It was also nice to see them helping each other out with "loans."  They are now working to earn more Starbucks (and hopefully not get too many debits) so they can enjoy the store again at the end of this month.  Thanks to Keely (from 6th grade) for being our store cashier!

We have an all school mass coming up this Sunday at 10:00.  Our goal is to have as many students as we can there to participate.  The KCs will also be putting on a pancake breakfast before and after mass, which will raise money for our school.  I encourage all of you to attend!
