We have been very busy in the classroom, on a field trip, at the parade, and preparing for some upcoming events!  I have some guest bloggers to report on all that has been going on:
The Christmas parade
On December 3 we had our Christmas parade. We had every 4th grade girl and two 5th grade girls in the parade. We had our two friends, Alicia and Keely, hold up a banner that said Our Lady of the Lake. We were freezing. We were so cold it felt like our hands were about to fall off! We had to do kicks and cheers to warm up.
Our float was behind us. We had the Crachit family, the ghost of Christmas past, Future , and Scrooge. Our float looked awesome! Thanks to the people who helped work on it.

We are going to be doing a play called the Christmas Carol on Monday December 17. It’s going to be so fun. We’re trying to tell everyone the true meaning of Christmas and that it’s better to give than receive. We hope if you come you will like it. We’re working so hard on it and we’re trying our hardest. We hope to see you there.

We are now into 2nd quarter!  The 4th graders have been busy practicing for their Veteran's Day program, which is today at 2:00.  They also had a fun Halloween party a couple of weeks ago.  We have been learning about Saints in religion.  They each chose a Saint to research and have been doing a wonderful job putting together a report on their Saint.  We are looking forward to our Thanksgiving dinner next week and meeting up with our Kindergarten reading buddies again.  Next week we also have parent/teacher conferences on Tuesday.  I look forward to seeing all of you to discuss your child's progress!  The book fair will also be going on at the same time, so stop by the library for that too if you have the chance.

We have had a busy last few weeks!  We got to meet with our Kindergarten reading buddies and read with them.  Hopefully we will be able to do that once a month.  We also headed to the high school music concert last Friday.  It's nice to see students that went to our school in the high school band and choir.  I know many of the 4th graders are playing instruments now or will be in the future, so it's great for them to see some big kids playing "their" instrument too.  We are quickly approaching the end of the quarter.  I have been reminding the students everyday about any missing work that they have and sometimes having them stay in at recess to work on it.  I sent home graded work again today, so I hope you had the chance to look at it.  We will be having a Halloween party Friday afternoon in our classroom.  I will allow the students to change into their costumes after lunch and we will play a few games in the classroom and share some treats.  At about 2:15 we will head down to the Social Hall for a school costume parade.  Please feel free to send a treat to share with the class on Friday or a small dollar store prize for our games.  Happy Halloween!

We had a very enjoyable Grandparent's Day yesterday!  I was so happy to see so many grandparents, relatives, and friends were able to make it.  I had the students interview their grandparent or relative, which turned out to be very interesting and fun.  The students shared their interviews with the class later in the day, and it was fun to get to know everyone's visitor a little better.  Hopefully your child shared some of the information they found out with you.

Graded papers and progress reports went home on Monday.  If you have any questions or concerns about anything please let me know.  We are about mid-way through the quarter now and learning lots of new things everyday!  We will be starting Guided Reading groups in the next few weeks where your child will be grouped with other students at a similar reading level.  This gives them a chance to read books at their personal levels and allows me to work with them more closely on any struggles they might be having.

We are having an all school mass this Sunday at 10:00.  Please try to make it if you can.  Students will be in front leading the singing.  There is also a pancake and sausage breakfast going on from 8:00-12:30 in the social hall to raise money for our school.  Have a great day!

We had a great field trip yesterday to Kreher Park.  The weather turned out wonderful!  The students continued working on their tree books.  We made leaf rubbings last Friday in art class of 10 different Wisconsin trees.  Then on our field trip yesterday we visited each tree, made bark rubbings, described them, and sketched them.  Later this week we will be working on putting them all together into our very own tree books.

Due to our field trip, I was not able to send home graded work yesterday.  It is coming home today.  We will be leading the mass on Wed., Oct. 6, which is also Grandparent's Day.  Please come and celebrate with us if you can!  Have a great week!
